What is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
Male Breast Reduction Surgery, often referred to as surgery to rectify ‘man boobs’, has seen increased popularity over the last couple of years. The surgery, officially called gynaecomastia, aims to give men a flatter and more masculine chest contour and can be split up into two types. ‘True gynaecomastia’ is where the breast-like appearance is triggered by excess glandular tissue, a problem usually caused by over-exposure to certain hormones. The second type is ‘pseudogynaecomastia’, which is caused by fatty tissue and can be treated with Liposuction.
What happens after the procedure?
After surgery there will be some swelling in the chest area and if you have a general anaesthetic you should give yourself time to let the effects wear off. However, usually after about a week you will be able to return to work; just avoid any strenuous activities for at least six weeks. Male Breast Reduction Surgery does leave a small scar, however this will be located in the areola and is not very noticeable.
How much does Male Breast Reduction Surgery cost?
Male Breast Reduction Surgery can cost up to £5,000. Before going through with the surgery, you will need to determine if it is ‘pseudo-‘ or ‘true’ gynaecomastia, and a surgeon will be able to help you with this. If you have true gynaecomastia then this is a very complex surgical procedure and so all the normal rules apply.
