Research conducted by the BBC has highlighted hospital debts in the East of England which could be putting patients at risk.
Some of East Anglia’s key hospitals – including Milton Keynes, Colchester, Peterborough and Stamford, Mid Essex, Kings Lynn, Ipswich, Northampton and Bedford Trusts face a shortfall of approximately £200 million between them this year, with the highest in the region being Peterborough, facing a £39.5 million shortfall alone.
It is vitally important that there is adequate funding in place to protect patients. Without this, resources could falter and the usually excellent level of care that we have come to expect simply can’t be delivered, putting patients at risk of hospital negligence. A lack of funding can seriously impact on resource within hospitals and the NHS needs to demonstrate improved risk management across the board to prevent any further issues within the region.
